Kevin Blackwell reckons Olympic hero Paul Goodison got his inspiration to win a sailing gold medal at the Olympics … after Sheffield United beat QPR!
Blades supporter Goodison, 30, added to Great Britain's medal haul by winning sailing's Laser class in Beijing.
Manager Blackwell said: "He has done everyone proud and we are all delighted for him.
"I called him after we had beaten QPR and I hope that victory provided a bit of inspiration for him.
"We are all looking forward to him coming down to Bramall Lane as a guest of the club so that he can receive a standing ovation from the fans.
"What he has done is fantastic. After the bitter disappointment of Athens, it must have taken terrific courage, tenacity and strength of character."
Season ticket holder Goodison finished fourth in Athens in 2004 but made amends by taking top spot in China.
Manager Blackwell is close friends with Goodison and went sailing with him during the summer to pick-up some tips from the expert.
Blackwell even helped Goodison's crew finish fifth in the Isle of Wight race in June.
