Joe Ledley is a Cardiff fan with his roots in the city.

Nothing is giving him greater pleasure than being part of the Bluebirds' success story.

Ledley is the Championship Powerade Player of the Month for January - and he's dead set on fulfilling his football ambitions at Cardiff City.

The highly-rated Wales midfielder scored twice to help City to three wins and two draws from five unbeaten games last month.

An impressive 13-match run without defeat has boosted their promotion push and taken last season's beaten FA Cup Finalists to a Fourth Round Replay against Arsenal.

Ledley has built on an outstanding 2007/08 campaign to play a central role in the Cardiff resurgence, skippering the side for the first time this season.

He is ignoring interest from Premier League sides to concentrate on City's bid for a top two spot.

Ledley, 22, who has already racked up more than 200 Cardiff appearances, said: "It's great to be recognised like this, especially as there are so many good players in the Championship.

"It's not just good for me. It shows the club is heading in the right direction and it's also a great reflection on my team-mates. Without them I wouldn't be in this position."

Cardiff move to a new £100million, 26,500-all seater stadium in nearby Leck next season.

Ledley grew up in neighbouring Fairwater, and has been at the club since he was nine. He can think of no better way to celebrate the landmark move by bringing Premier League football to the Welsh capital for the first time.

He added: "There's no reason why we can't make it into the Premier League. This club is going places and I'll be doing all I can to help us go up.

"I've been a Cardiff fan all my life, my roots are here, and City is in my blood. I'm convinced we can take it to the next level.

"Automatic promotion isn't out of the question because we're on a good run. It would be great to move to the new stadium with promotion. The whole city would be buzzing if we can manage that."
