Newcastle United boss Chris Hughton was celebrating today after being named Coca-Cola Championship Manager of the Month for April.

Hughton's side capped a memorable season with another fantastic month gaining 16 points from a possible 18. This fine form saw them gain an incredible five consecutive victories including an emphatic 4-1 home win against promotion hopefuls Blackpool and an away win at Reading. However, the undoubted pinnacle of a great month was the Magpies' 2-0 away win at Plymouth Argyle to wrap up the Coca-Cola Championship title.

Also shortlisted for the April award were Ian Holloway of Blackpool, Dave Jones of Cardiff City and Leicester City's Nigel Pearson.

Alan Curbishley, Chairman of the Coca-Cola Manager of the Month Awards panel, said: "Chris Hughton deserves special praise for the way in which he has masterminded another superb month for the Magpies. Their unbeaten run in April capped a fine season and culminated in them lifting the Championship title and with it a return to the Premier League at the first time of asking."

Lee Clark of Huddersfield Town won the award in League 1 and Steve Cotterill of Notts County was given the League 2 accolade.

The decision to present the Coca-Cola Championship Manager of the Month award was made by the Coca-Cola Awards panel. Headed by Alan Curbishley the panel also includes former World Cup Referee Jack Taylor, on behalf of The Football League, Olaf Dixon of the League Managers Association and Steve Watts, Marketing Assets Manager, Coca-Cola Great Britain.
