Swansea City have announced the sad death of striker Besian Idrizaj. The 22-year-old passed away in his sleep while at home with his family in his native Austria.
The news was reported to the Swans by Idrizaj's agent and the exact cause of death is yet to be confirmed.
He began his career at LASK Linz in 2003 and in only his second season picked up Austria's young player of the season award. His performances attracted the attention of Liverpool and a move to Anfield promptly followed.
Although he didn't make a first team appearance for the Reds he did appear in the Championship during loan spells for both Luton Town and Crystal Palace. On both occasions he made seven appearances and during his time with the Hatters he netted what was to be his only goal in English football.
After his release from Liverpool the Baden-born forward spent a spell in Germany before Paulo Sousa brought him back to Championship football at the start of the season.
The former Austrian Under-21 international appeared four times for the Swans this season.
Everyone connected with The Football League would like to express its deepest sympathy to his family and friends.
