Preston North End have dismissed Manager Darren Ferguson.  The Lilywhites are currently bottom of the npower Championship, four points adrift of safety. On Tuesday they suffered a 3-1 home defeat at the hands of Middlesbrough, the loss was their fifth defeat in their last ten matches.

In a statement on www.pnefc.net, Preston announced: "At a board meeting held today the Directors of Preston North End decided to terminate the position of Darren Ferguson as Manager.

"The Club expressed their appreciation of the efforts made by Darren but felt that the league position represented a significant threat to the Club and it was felt that a change of Manager might bring better fortune."

The announcement came just a matter of hours after Lancashire rivals had revealed Brian Laws had stood down as the Clarets boss.
