Sheffield United boss Danny Wilson is reluctant to confirm Frank Barlow as his new assistant at Bramall Lane.

Sheffield-born Barlow played for United in the late 60's and early 70's and the newly-appointed manager admits he would like to recruit him.

Wilson told the club's official website: "That is a decision that will be made later I would think, I can't say yes or no at this moment in time."

He added: "Everyone knows the high respect and regard Frank has in football, not least here. He is a fantastic friend, I would like to think I could get him but it is unfair to comment further now.

"He is a close family friend, hence why people have put two and two together."

Given his Sheffield Wednesday connections, Wilson faced an mixed reception from Blades fans upon his appointment but added: "There is some unrest about me coming here, but hopefully as they see my commitment and a winning team, that might turn one or two round."
