There are two games live on TV this weekend with a mouth-watering double of npower Championship action on Saturday.

First up is a Saturday afternoon showdown between coastal clubs Southampton and Blackpool. The 12.45pm kick-off at St Mary's will no doubt be an interesting one as the Saints have seen their lead at the top of the table cut down to just two points.

Manager Nigel Adkins has watched his side worryingly lose two out of their last three matches against teams in the relegation zone, away to Bristol City and more recently Doncaster Rovers. However the Saints' home form cannot be questioned as Southampton are the only team in The Football League to maintain a 100% record in front of their fans.

It means that visiting Blackpool will be facing the Saints at their weakest moment or arguable strongest depending on your point of view. But manager Ian Holloway will no doubt look to his side's recent form instead which has seen the Seasiders lose just once in their last six games.

Blackpool have pushed up the league and remain on the fringes of the Play-Offs something that they were very successful in last time round when they won promotion to the Premier League in 2010.

And it was last season that the both clubs met albeit in an FA Cup encounter at St Mary's which resulted in Southampton progressing to the next round with a 2-0 win courtesy of second half goals from Lee Barnard and Guilherme Do Prado.

Looking at the history books the Saints have won 21 times, Blackpool 18 and there have been eight draws. The clubs have only played each other five times since 2007 all of which being fairly tight games with just 10 goals scored.

Roll back the clock 30 years to the next time the clubs faced off and it was goal fever on a Saturday night in the seventies. During the 1975/76 season the played each other three times scoring 15 goals in total something that would make great viewing if it is repeated in this match.

On the box later in the evening is a 5.20pm kick off at Oakwell where Barnsley play host to Ipswich Town.

Barnsley have been in imperious form of late winning the four games on the spin with some impressive wins over high-flying Leeds and Hull City. It means the Tykes move up to ninth in the table - just outside the Play-Offs - an encouraging place to be at this stage of the season.

Boss Keith Hill won't need to find much inspiration for his players especially as they take on a struggling Ipswich that are languishing just outside the relegation zone on goal difference. The Tractor Boys have the unfortunate distinction of having the worst form over their last six matches in the npower Championship having lost seven games on the spin.

Town manager Paul Jewell will be hoping any kind of result against Barnsley could help kick start a revival similar to that of Bristol City. Ipswich can feel extremely hard done by in the 3-2 home defeat to Reading after conceding two injury time goals causing another a much needed three points to slip away.

This will be the first time the clubs have met this season and it offers Ipswich the chance to improve on the solitary point they picked up in both fixtures last campaign.
