Peterborough have signed a defender on a pre-contract agreement with the player set to join the club in the summer.

Posh are refusing to reveal the identity of the centre-half but have said that he has been a target for the club for some time.

"We did sign a long-term target on Monday who arrives in June," said chairman Darragh MacAnthony via social networking site Twitter.

"I am not allowed to name him but the gaffer chased him for a while.

"He is a good player who will fit in well. He has signed a three-year pre-contract deal."

The player will be a long-term replacement for Ryan Bennett, who left London Road on transfer deadline day to join Barclays Premier League club Norwich in a club-record deal for Posh.
