New Sheffield Wednesday boss Dave Jones hailed his team's dominant performance as they thrashed Bury 4-1 in his first game in charge.

On-loan winger Michail Antonio scored twice with Gary Madine and Ryan Lowe also on target. Steven Schumacher grabbed Bury's goal.

Jones said: "They were superb from start to finish and I couldn't have asked for a better start."

He added: "They did everything we asked and more and I thought we totally dominated from start to finish. Until you know your players inside out, it's about putting round pegs in round holes.

"We said to them 'don't be frightened'. We asked them to believe in what they can do. It was all about keeping the ball.

"For 75 minutes we were totally dominant and I think they enjoyed it near the end. It's important that we don't get carried away because it's one win."

Bury manager Richie Barker was critical of his side's defensive performance.

He said: "I thought a mad 15 minutes cost us dearly. Defensively, we made it pretty easy for them. Unfortunately, at the minute, we can't stay in games.

"We gave Huddersfield a three-goal start on Saturday and you can't come here and give Sheffield Wednesday a four-goal start.

"I think at 4-1 we had the three best chances. I'm not saying we would have won but we could have made it nervous for them. They were a bit nervous for 10 minutes."
