Doncaster manager Dean Saunders has held talks with Hull midfielder James Harper over a possible move to the Keepmoat Stadium.
The 31-year-old's contract expires at the end of June and he is looking for a fresh challenge after an injury-ravaged 2011/12 campaign saw him play just three minutes of npower Championship football for the Tigers.
"James is a player I've spoken to," said Saunders in the Hull Daily Mail. "I like to meet players and talk to them eye to eye to see if they are as determined as I am.
"It's important I find the right players to take this club forward. I don't want anyone coming here for the ride.
"I've got three lists of players that I am working from over the summer: expensive, not so expensive and cheap.
"I've got to be patient because we all know what the situation is with the wage bill. There's been a bit of interest in a few of our players but we have not had any concrete offers."
According to local media reports, another player Saunders has had contact with is Altrincham striker Damian Reeves.
