Doncaster boss Dean Saunders is aiming to use his skills of persuasion to entice new players to the club.

Rovers will compete in npower League One next season following their relegation from the second tier after a four-year stay - but Saunders still wants Championship-quality additions.

"I'm trying to bring in the best players I can within the budget I have," he told the club's official website. "I've spoken to several more this week and some are out of our price range when it comes to wages, so it's a case of persuading them this is the best place for them to come and further their careers."

He added: "It feels a bit like playing poker at the moment and waiting for all the cards to fall into place. We have set our sights high and hopefully we will be in a position to announce something soon."

Saunders also hinted at a possible U-turn over some of the players who were released last season.

"It will all depend on the positions I need to fill within the squad. I know which players I would like to keep and will continue to speak to them," he explained. "I can't name names but all I can tell you that there will be a lot of new faces coming in - and maybe some familiar ones as well."
