Crystal Palace manager Dougie Freedman will not rush key duo Paddy McCarthy and Jonathan Williams back from injury.

Skipper McCarthy has yet to make an appearance this season due to a groin problem and highly-rated teenage midfielder Williams has a calf strain.

Freedman said: "Jonny Williams has a calf strain, it's a result of his broken leg last year.

"He keeps on picking up little injuries. We just need to be careful with him, maybe another week or so.

"Paddy's groin is playing up, he felt it in the Reading friendly.

"We've just got to be strong. There's no use us throwing them in there when they aren't at their best.

"When they come back, they'll come back stronger."
