Blackburn Rovers moved to the top of the npower Championship as a brace from Jordan Rhodes helped them to a 5-3 victory over Bristol City in a thriller at Ashton Gate.
Rovers were behind inside the first minute thanks to Albert Adomah's effort for City, but frontman Rhodes - who became the visitors' record signing when he joined from Huddersfield for £8 million last month - opened his account for his new club just before the half-hour mark to draw things level.
A goal 10 minutes after the break from his strike partner Nuno Gomes was cancelled out by Stephen Pearson's equaliser and after Ruben Rochina put Blackburn back in front, Sam Baldock made it 3-3 with seven minutes to go. But Rovers defender Scott Dann and Rhodes both struck in stoppage time to secure three points for Steve Kean's side.
Blackburn now have 11 points, one more than second-placed Blackpool, who drew 1-1 at Barnsley. Craig Davies put the Tykes ahead on 14 minutes before Tom Ince (30) equalised with his fifth goal of the season.
Level on points with the Seasiders are third-placed Brighton & Hove Albion, 3-0 victors over Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night, Hull in fourth and Cardiff in fifth.
Hull City ran out comfortable 4-1 winners at home against Millwall earlier on Saturday afternoon, scoring all their goals in the first half through Robert Koren, Jay Simpson, Abdoulaye Faye and Sone Aluko before Darius Henderson's consolation for the visitors after the break.
Cardiff City overcame Leeds United 2-1 at home thanks to a Craig Bellamy free-kick and a Peter Whittingham penalty following Tom Lees' foul on Nicky Maynard, Rodolph Austin then pulling one back for the away side.
Sixth-placed Nottingham Forest extended their unbeaten start in the league to five games as a Pablo Ibanez own-goal salvaged them a 2-2 draw at home against Birmingham City. Goals from Hayden Mullins and Marlon King had left Forest 2-0 down with less than 20 minutes to go before Simon Cox made it 2-1 and Ibanez netted an unwitting 86th minute equaliser.
Middlesbrough are up to seventh following their 2-0 triumph over Ipswich Town at the Riverside Stadium courtesy of a first-half goal from Luke Williams and a late one from Mustapha Carayol.
Elsewhere, Huddersfield Town defeated Derby County 1-0 at home, Bolton Wanderers registered only their second win of the campaign by beating Watford 2-1 at the Reebok Stadium and Peterborough United remain bottom and pointless after a 5-2 thrashing at Burnley. Friday night's other game saw Crystal Palace win 1-0 at Charlton Athletic.
