Eddie Howe is delighted Charlie Austin has retained the Midas touch in front of goal he first displayed as a non-league hotshot.

Austin fired a hat-trick as the Clarets ended a run of three straight npower Championship defeats by beating Peterborough 5-2 at the weekend.

That took the 22-year-old to 60 goals in 122 professional appearances for Swindon and Burnley, making good on the promise Turf Moor boss Howe spotted during his days with south-coast minnows Poole Town

"It's a fantastic record," he said. "A lot of people say that if you score goals, you score goals at any level. I think Charlie seems to be one of those players.

"I remember picking up the local paper when I was at Bournemouth and seeing he'd scored four or five every week for Poole Town. And you'd think 'you've got to go and watch this kid, he's definitely got something about him'.

"And he's just carried that on through the levels. He's got that hunger to want to score more, so hopefully he can stay fit and do that for us."
