Brighton boss Gus Poyet admits his side are better equipped for a promotion push this season.

The Seagulls, who finished 10th last term, climbed to the top of the table over the weekend after a 2-1 win at Millwall, their fifth straight victory.

"Experience is the difference," said Poyet. "We are a better team, a stronger team. I hope the players are going to prove me right.

"We are supposed to be better and we should be better, but it's up to us.

"I am prepared to say we are going to be better than last year, and last year we were 10th. We were very close, with 10 games to go we were fifth and we lost it because we didn't have the depth and quantity of players.

"We do have that now so it's up to us. That doesn't mean we are going to win the league, but we should be closer."
