Middlesbrough's teenage midfielder Adam Reach has signed a new four-year contract with the club.

The Gateshead-born 19-year-old has made four appearances, including three starts, for Boro this season after breaking through into Tony Mowbray's first-team squad.

Mowbray told the club's official website: "He's done exceptionally well and deserves his contract. We hope he sees this as a place to develop his skills."

He added: "Hopefully we will see him develop quickly from now on. He's made an impact in the team this year and we're hoping he'll have a lot more exposure to the team as the season unfurls.

"He's positive, he's creative and he can score a goal. He has some attributes we hope to develop and hopefully he will fulfil that potential. If he continues to progress the way he has been, we'll all be happy."

Reach arrived at the Riverside from Gateshead College originally as a left-sided defender, but has recently established himself on the left side of midfield.
