Birmingham have signed West Brom right-back James Hurst on a one-month youth loan.

Hurst's arrival comes after Stephen Carr and Paul Caddis were both recently ruled out for the long term, with 19-year-old Will Packwood remaining as the only recognised right-back, although midfielders Jonathan Spector and Hayden Mullins can both step in.

Hurst, 20, progressed through West Brom's Academy before joining Portsmouth in 2008, only to rejoin the Baggies two years later.

He enjoyed loan spells with Blackpool, Shrewsbury and Chesterfield last season, making a total of 24 appearances, while also captaining West Brom's reserve side.

Hurst is yet to get a run-out this term but goes straight into Birmingham's squad for Tuesday night's Championship trip to Cardiff.
