Brighton and Hove Albion have been praised by visiting supporter Simon Barron after his son was selected from the crowd to be Peterborough United's mascot for the Seagulls versus Posh match at the American Express Community Stadium on Tuesday night.

The visitors did not have a mascot to lead Darren Ferguson's side out for the game, and Barron's nine-year-old son Luke was selected from the crowd by the Albion's Young Seagulls' team.

Barron, who was at the match with Luke's grandfather, said: "My son took a walk to take his first view inside the stadium to which he was amazed, whilst dad, granddad and uncle enjoyed a pre-match drink.

"Little did we know how our evening was to change and the incredible experience my son was about to experience courtesy of Brighton.

"We suddenly turned to see my son being led by a female steward towards us, him looking a little worried and me thinking 'uh oh, what has he been up to?' Of course, he had done nothing and she simply approached him to be the Peterborough mascot and would we be happy to allow him to.

"Of course, we had no objection and once it had sunk in with him the excitement grew across his face."

The south-coast club provided the young supporter with suitable kit in the colours of Peterborough United, and he got the chance to meet his favourite Posh player on the pitch after leading out the clubs.

"He went on to the pitch for a kick about before returning to the tunnel to lead the Peterborough United team out, have his picture taken with his favourite player, having the pictures with the match officials and sponsors before an energetic run back to the tunnel from where he was escorted back to us with the biggest smile I've ever seen on his face.

"What an absolute credit to Brighton and Hove Albion this experience was for us all. I'm sure most clubs in the country would not care that the away team had not brought a mascot and nothing would have been done.

"Not Brighton, with the effort required being made and an experience being created that will be a lifelong memory to three generations of a family."
