Nottingham Forest midfielder Jonathan Greening has joined Barnsley on emergency loan until the beginning of next year.

The experienced former Manchester United, Middlesbrough, West Brom and Fulham man has made just three first-team appearances for the Reds this season.

Manager Sean O'Driscoll told the club's official website: "Jonathan is a great lad, his attitude is excellent, he trains hard and Barnsley are giving him an opportunity to play on a regular basis."

He added: "His opportunities with us have been limited since we signed Adlene Guedioura and Henri Lansbury but every time he has come into the squad he has been first class.

"Hopefully he can go out and get some games and that will stand us in good stead if he needs to come back into our team."

Greening is the second Forest player to join the Tykes on loan in the past week, with striker Marcus Tudgay having already moved to Oakwell.
