Nottingham Forest manager Alex McLeish is keen to bring Elliott Ward back to the City Ground.

Ward's two-month loan spell with the Reds ended after McLeish's first game in charge against Crystal Palace on December 29 and the centre-half is now back at parent club Norwich.

After seeing his side concede six goals in two matches, including three during Saturday's surprise FA Cup third-round defeat at home to npower League One strugglers Oldham, McLeish wants the 27-year-old to help sure up his defence.

The Scot is exploring the possibility of re-signing Ward on another loan deal with a view to a permanent switch.

He told Forest's official website: "We need to look at the defensive situation. We were looking at central defenders prior to the (Oldham) game and we certainly will now.

"We are looking at Ward. That is a situation that is on-going. We are talking to Norwich about that one.

"We want to get him back, it is possible, but it depends on the kind of deal that can be done. We are probably looking at another loan, just so I can have a look at him, perhaps with a view to making it more permanent beyond that."

Ward made 12 Championship appearances for Forest during his loan stint at the east midlands club.
