Barry Robson is back training with Middlesbrough having seen his contract with Major League Soccer side Vancouver Whitecaps cancelled by mutual consent.

The Scot, 34, left Boro last summer to sign a three-year contract with the MLS club but that has been cut short following just one season after his family failed to settle in Canada.

Robson is now back in Britain looking to resurrect his career and has turned to Boro boss Tony Mowbray to ask if he can use the club's Rockliffe Park training base to keep fit.

Whether the midfielder's return to the npower Championship promotion chasers leads to a contract remains to be seen.

Robson, who will begin training with Middlesbrough's squad from Thursday, won the club's Player of the Season award last term.
