Bristol City have been handed an injury boost ahead of their clash with managerless Nottingham Forest this weekend with the news that Louis Carey's knee injury is not as serious as first thought.

After limping out of their 2-0 defeat at Blackburn on Saturday, the veteran defender left Ewood Park with a protective boot on.

The 36-year-old then underwent an x-ray which showed no fracture, meaning he could return at Ashton Gate this weekend.

Carey has been a regular under new manager Sean O'Driscoll and is six games from breaking City's all-time appearance record of 645 held by John Atyeo.
