Reading have been relegated back to The Football League following a 0-0 draw with Queens Park Rangers at the Madejski Stadium.
The Royals sat side-by-side in the Premier League drop zone with QPR, 10 points adrift of safety, coming into the match and needed maximum points to keep their slim survival hopes alive, but they could only manage a draw in what was a fairly uneventful match and that meant both teams were relegated.
Nigel Adkins was appointed as manager of Reading in March, replacing Brian McDermott, and he faced an uphill task to save them from drop back into The Football League. They have collected just two points under his stewardship and will now take their place back in the Championship, just a season after they won the division, when they finished one point above Adkins' former club Southampton.
