Goalkeeper Dean Gerken has joined Ipswich on a two-year contract after impressing during a trial spell with the npower Championship club.

Gerken, 28, was released by Bristol City at the end of last season following their relegation to League One.

The former Colchester keeper has spent the last three weeks training with Mick McCarthy's side and turned out in friendlies against Crawley and Shelbourne.

Gerken will compete with Scott Loach to be first choice for the Tractor Boys and he joins former Robins team-mates Cole Skuse and Paul Anderson at Portman Road.
