Richie Wellens has had his contract with Leicester terminated by mutual consent.

Wellens had a year remaining on his deal at the King Power Stadium but last season found himself out of favour and has been told he is not part of manager Nigel Pearson's plans.

The 33-year-old midfielder made just four appearances last season and was sent to Ipswich on a month-long loan as he recovered from a cruciate ligament injury.

By contrast he made 46 appearances during the 2011/12 campaign when he was a lynchpin of the Foxes' first-team squad.

Wellens has been training with former club Oldham this summer to maintain his fitness while he has been heavily linked with a return to another of his old teams, Doncaster.
