Leicester have signed Arsenal defender Ignasi Miquel on a season-long loan deal.

The 20-year-old, who has made 14 appearances for the Gunners, is hoping to go straight into Nigel Pearson's squad for Sunday's home league game against Leeds, subject to paperwork.

Pearson said: "Ignasi is a centre-back with lots of potential and will give us another option in defence.

"He's very enthusiastic and delighted to be here, which is a big part of taking players on loan for us.

"We'll see how he is with regard to availability and whether he will be part of the squad for Sunday's game against Leeds."

Miquel made his debut for Arsenal in 2011 against Leyton Orient in the FA Cup and later that year appeared for Arsene Wenger's side against Liverpool in the Barclays Premier League and Olympiakos in the Champions League.

The Barcelona-born centre-half featured three times for Arsenal last season, including the 7-5 Capital One Cup win at Reading. He scored his first senior goal in the 6-1 win over Coventry in the previous round.
