Huddersfield Town striker James Vaughan has been named the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month for August.

Vaughan has carried on his superb form from late last season with six goals in five games, including a hat-trick in the 5-1 win over Bournemouth.

Huddersfield manager Mark Robins said: "This award caps a superb month for James who is a top class, all-round performer and as good a striker as you could want in the Sky Bet Championship. Given that he started his senior career at 16, people will forget that James is still only 25-years-old.

"He possesses genuine pace and great movement. He's strong, brave, good in the air and has a tireless work ethic. Most importantly for us, he's a great finisher - he puts the ball in the net.

"It's great for James and the club that he's getting the plaudits he deserves. But he'll also be the first to recognise the contribution his team-mates have made towards this. They're the ones who supply him with the ammunition.

"The challenge now for James - and the rest of the players - is to keep this form up for the other 10 months of the season."

Sky Bet Head of Football Paul Wiggins added: "James has carried his lively pre-season performances into the early part of the season and scored a varied range of goals.

"If he can remain injury free then Huddersfield will have a regular scorer to bank on for the first time since Jordan Rhodes departed the John Smith's Stadium."

Sky Bet Football League pundit Don Goodman said: "Injuries and opportunities prevented James showing his true goalscoring potential at Everton. There's no doubt he's been a ruthless predator at the start of this season."
