Sheffield Wednesday have signed Sunderland striker Connor Wickham on an emergency loan deal that will see him remain at the club until January 1.

The 20-year-old returns to Hillsborough for a second stint with the Owls following a loan spell last campaign in which he scored one goal in six appearances.

The former Ipswich forward is available to make his second debut in Wednesday's Sky Bet Championship clash with Reading on Saturday.

Wickham told the club's official website: "I'm really pleased to come back to Sheffield Wednesday.

"There was interest from other clubs but I feel I have unfinished business here and I can't wait to get started again.

"I know the manager, I know the players and the place and that was a big influence in my decision."
