Birmingham have suffered a big blow with the news on-loan defender Dan Burn has been recalled by parent club Fulham.

The 21-year-old arrived at St Andrew's on a season-long deal in the summer and has suitably impressed at the heart of defence, making a total of 28 appearances, all but one of which were starts, and scored one goal.

But recently-appointed Fulham boss Rene Meulensteen is keen to assess Burn's capabilities with the London club battling to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

Burn is yet to make his first-team bow for the Cottagers but could now be in the frame to feature in their FA Cup third-round trip to Norwich on Saturday.

The 6ft 6in defender spent last season on loan at Yeovil and helped the Somerset club earn promotion to the Championship.

The news of Burn's recall comes as an even bigger blow to Blues boss Lee Clark having lost fellow centre-back Kyle Bartley to a hamstring injury in the 1-1 draw with Barnsley on New Year's Day.
