Birmingham City have been dealt a defensive blow after loanee Kyle Bartley was recalled by parent-club Swansea City.

The former Arsenal and Rangers centre-back arrived at St Andrew's during the summer and has since gone on to make 19 appearances, scoring five goals.

Bartley will return to Wales with immediate effect as Michael Laudrup looks to increase his own defensive options ahead of a busy schedule involving Barclays Premier League, UEFA Europa League and FA Cup action.

His loss leaves Blues boss Lee Clark with a defensive headache ahead of the weekend clash with in-form Derby as skipper Paul Robinson continues his suspension, while fellow loanee Dan Burn returned to Fulham in December despite initially agreeing a year-long deal.
