Wigan Athletic have been rocked by another injury in their midfield following the news that Roger Espinoza has undergone an operation on a hernia.

The Honduras international travelled to Germany on Friday morning to deal with the problem, which Latics boss Uwe Rosler does not think will keep him out for the remainder of the season.

It follows on from the news earlier this week that Chris McCann is unlikely to play again this term after injuring his knee in Sunday's FA Cup win at Manchester City.

While Ben Watson has also been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign after breaking his leg last month.

"Roger has been operated on in Munich with a hernia problem," said Rosler.

"We expect him to be back pretty soon and hopefully he will be involved in some games before the end of the season.

"We are optimistic about his situation and he should be able to contribute during the run-in.

"We've now faced three unexpected injuries in central midfield which is not ideal for us, but we have to continue and hope that Roger will be back soon."

Espinoza, 27, has played in 25 games this season.
