Sheffield Wednesday have completed the permanent signings of defenders Matt Young and Ed Sanders from Southampton and Stoke respectively.

Right-back Young, 20, and centre-half Sanders, 18, have both put pen to paper on one-year deals.

Young started out at Tottenham before joining Southampton aged 16. He signed his first professional contract at St Mary's in May 2012.

"I've played with players who pushed on into the first team there including the likes of Luke Shaw and Calum Chambers and good luck to them," Young told the Owls' official website.

"Now I'm happy to be here and to take my own path.

"I want to get a good pre-season under my belt, show the gaffer what I can do and try to get in his thoughts for the start of the season."

Sanders began his career path at Portsmouth and at 16 was handed a two-year scholarship at Stoke.

"This is a great opportunity for me," he said.

"You can tell after just five minutes of stepping through the door how big this club is and the history that goes along with that.

"Hopefully I can continue to develop and enjoy the experience over the course of the next year."
