Brentford have completed the signing of free agent Tommy Smith on a one-year contract.

The former Watford and Sunderland striker saw his contract expiry at Cardiff in the summer and has since spent several weeks on trial with Mark Warburton's side.

Having impressed in two pre-season friendlies for the newly-promoted Sky Bet Championship side, the Bees boss has moved to make the experienced 34-year-old a permanent fixture at Griffin Park.

"I'm delighted that the period Tommy spent training with us has come to a successful conclusion," Warburton told the club's official website.

"We always knew Tommy would add value on and off the pitch.

"He needed to find fitness after a season without much football at Cardiff and will bring a level of experience to the squad.

"I am sure he will make a valuable contribution over the season ahead."

Smith becomes Brentford's eighth summer addition, subject to international clearance, joining the likes of Moses Odubajo, Andre Gray and Alex Pritchard at Griffin Park.
