Delivered by the Federation of Stadium Communities, Stadium Legends is an intergenerational initiative that uses reminiscence about sports clubs and their communities, plus sport in general, to bring older and younger generations together in meaningful and sustainable activity.
The Football League Trust offered member clubs the opportunity to deliver this programme due to the success of pilot projects which ran in Telford, Shrewsbury and Stoke on Trent (with AFC Telford, Shrewsbury Town and Port Vale respectively).
The project aims to engage older and younger people, particularly those who are traditionally hard to engage, in shared learning and looks to build sustainable relationships between generations by sharing common interests.
Following an initial 'taster' event', a follow up programme, typically running for at least six sessions, is developed based on participant feedback and further explores areas of common interest. Sessions include elements such as functional literacy, numeracy, ICT and workplace skills, and previous projects have focused on promoting healthy eating and DVD production.
Sessions are delivered by trained and experienced facilitators from the Federation of Stadium Communities.
