Thirteen is lucky for some, so they say, and AFC Wimbledon striker Jack Midson is certainly hoping that his 13th goal of the season will prove a lucky omen as the Dons strive to put their rollercoaster season back into upswing mode.

Midson hit the equaliser at Port Vale on Saturday as Wimbledon came from behind to win 2-1, recording their first victory in 13 npower League 2 matches after collecting only three points from the 36 available in the previous 12 outings.

That nightmare run was in sharp contrast to the first 12 games of the season, in which the Dons had accumulated 23 points to sit third in the table and put themselves in contention for what would be a second successive promotion following their elevation to The Football League via the Blue Square Premier Play-Offs.

Midson joined the club from Oxford United ahead of their League bow and has proved a real success, his 13 goals coming in 29 League and Cup starts and representing exactly a third of Wimbledon's total in all games to date.

And despite suffering what was the worst ever sequence of results he has experienced in his decade long playing career - most of it spent at non-League level - the 28-year-old striker is enjoying life with the Dons and looking forward to helping turn the club's season back round towards what will hopefully be a positive conclusion.

"I'm very happy at AFC Wimbledon and it's obviously pleasing to have been scoring goals on a pretty regular basis," Midson told football-league.co.uk.

"I had my ups and downs at Oxford over the last couple of years, but the run we've just ended is without doubt the worst I've ever experienced. The same goes for a lot of the other lads in the team - I've talked to a number of them and nobody could remember having such a bad run of results.

"So we're relieved and very happy to have got a win at last. It was a long time coming, but we deserved the points at Vale and we certainly enjoyed the moment."

Enjoying the moment is one thing, but climbing back from 17th in the table ahead of last Saturday's game to re-enter the promotion race is another. Midson is confident, however, that the Dons can do just that with the help of several new players that have recently been brought into the club to bolster the squad.

The win at Port Vale was achieved, remarkably perhaps, by a team that included four new signings making their debuts. "We only had the new guys with us from last Thursday," noted Midson, "so it was a tremendous result in the circumstances.

"We need a bit longer to work together to really gel, but anything new when you're on a bad run is a good thing and that's how it proved for us.

"Hopefully on the back of Saturday's win we can turn things back round and I see no reason why not. From what I've seen of this League over the last couple of seasons, we're good enough to get into the Play-Off places - and I honestly believe that we can now go on a good run to get us there or thereabouts."
