Barnet manager Lawrie Sanchez is best remembered as a player for scoring the winning goal against Liverpool - then unquestionably the country's top team - in Wimbledon's shock 1-0 victory at Wembley in the 1988 FA Cup Final.

Now Sanchez wants to manage a team at the national stadium - and he will do so if the Bees win the second leg of their Johnstone's Paint Trophy, Southern Section Final at Swindon Town on Tuesday evening following the first leg's 1-1 draw at Underhill.

The former Wycombe Wanderers, Northern Ireland and Fulham boss told football-league.co.uk: "I had 17 years as a professional footballer, the last 10 in the top flight, but if you wanted to hang my career on one match I'd be happy with that - lots of top, top players never got to do what I did at Wembley.

"I got close to Wembley as a manager with Wycombe, when we pushed Liverpool all the way before losing 2-1 in the 2001 FA Cup semi-final at Villa Park, and when I was Northern Ireland manager we played England but the match was at Old Trafford.

"Now I'm 90 minutes away from managing a team at Wembley and it would be a dream come true if we got there, although to do that we've obviously got to come through a very difficult game against a team who are pushing for promotion."

Swindon are currently lying third in the npower League 2 table, 14 places higher than Barnet, though the teams have similar recent records - the high-flying Robins have won each of their last five League games while the Bees have won their last four.

Amidst those unbeaten League runs came the 1-1 Trophy draw at Underhill, where Sanchez's team came from behind to level the scores after they had sadly lost Danny Senda through an injury that has put him out for the rest of the season.

When the teams match up again at the County Ground the favourites tag will be on the home team, but that does not concern Sanchez. He stated after his side's recent home win against Crewe Alexandra that the Bees are in fact better away from home - and he has the stats to back up his assertion.

"We've had some great away results," he said, "especially in Cup games. We won at Portsmouth in the Carling Cup then took another Championship team, Burnley, to extra time up there before losing narrowly, and in the Johnston's Paint Trophy we've won at League 1 Colchester and at Gillingham and Cheltenham from out division.

"So going to Swindon doesn't faze us in the slightest. They scored their goal in the first leg when we were still adjusting our shape after Danny Senda had to come off because of his injury, and we thoroughly deserved our equaliser.

"Now we're only 90 minutes away from the Final and we're determined to get there. We're only about 10 miles from Wembley and you can see the arch from our training ground - at the start of the season I pointed to it and said to the lads, 'let's aim to get there this season,' and we don't intend to miss out now."
