It was a 3-0 win against Tranmere Rovers at home in 1999 for Barnsley.

John Barnes.

When did you realise you had a chance to progress in the game?
When I got a six-month contract at 19 after playing non-league football.

Which coach has had the biggest influence on your career?
Dave Bassett.

What did you spend your first wage packet on?
Travelling to training or a new shirt.

Does your squad number have a special meaning to you?
No, it was just the number I was given.

Who did you last swap shirts with? 
Joe Cole. 

How has the game changed for the better since you became a pro?
It has certainly got a lot quicker over the years, that's for sure.

If you could have coached yourself when you were a teenager, what advice would you have passed on?
Never, ever give in. If you do that, then you can achieve anything.

If you stay in the game at the end of your career, what will you do? a) Manager b) Coach c) Scout d) Physio e) Pundit?
Either a manager or a coach - I'm currently doing my coaching badges.

What do you want to be best remembered for at the end of your career?
For giving my absolute all in every training session and match that I played in.
