Shrewsbury Town have won the Family Club of the Year for League 2 at the 2009 Football League Awards incorporating FourFourTwo's Top 50 Football League Players.
The club received the award at a gala dinner at Grosvenor House, Park Lane on Sunday evening in front of more than 800 attendees from clubs, sponsors and the football industry.
Shrewsbury Town demonstrated their commitment to providing an outstanding family matchday experience since their move to a new stadium. The more innovative ideas introduced include dedicated areas for parents with young children, and facilitating a dedicated SMS text hotline to allow anonymity in highlighting any anti-social behaviour in the stadium. In addition to a wide range of community initiatives, the club also fully endorse The Football League's 'Enjoy the Match' campaign.
Mark Bradley, Customer Service Consultant and judge in this category commented that "Shrewsbury Town seemed to regard the move to the new stadium as licence to really change things. Everything seems more anchored to the family experience."
Wycombe Wanderers were Highly Commended by the judging panel for this award, who were impressed by their creative and all-round approach to welcoming families to games.
