Shrewsbury Town has won the E.ON Family Club of the Year award for League 2 at the 2010 Football League Awards incorporating FourFourTwo's Top 50 Football League Players.
The club received the award at a gala dinner at Grosvenor House, Park Lane on Sunday evening in front of 900 attendees from clubs, sponsors and the football industry.
Shrewsbury Town has actively encouraged family attendance at the ProStar Stadium with an adult ticket and two under 11's costing only £17. It is also very apparent that the staff at Shrewsbury are heavily involved with helping to create a family friendly atmosphere on match days. This includes both the staff and the non-playing players spending time pre-kick off engaging with fans in the family stand which seats over 700 fans.
The club also have a dedicated Away family area, something which drew particular praise from the judges, while the club's mascot engages with fans really well. The Enjoy the Match campaign was extremely prominent with posters throughout the stadium, including in the club shop and the visitor noted that bad language was not heard at all on their visit. The judging panel expressed that Shrewsbury had offered a consistently excellent family experience since moving to the new stadium and this year had improved yet again. Overall, Shrewsbury have gone to great efforts and rightly once again deserve recognition.
Football League Awards judge Craig Fiddes from E.ON said of Shrewsbury's efforts to attract families; "it is great to see away fan family areas and family sponsorship packages that are looking to offer something different."
On collecting the award, Jonathan Harris said: "It's a great honour - to get the award the first time was very important to us, but we made sure we didn't take our foot off the gas and it's given us a big lift to win it again. Now we're going for the hat-trick - hopefully by winning the award in League 1 next year."
