The Football League has announced that Connor Wickham has won the Football League Young Player of the Year Award at the 2011 Football League Awards to add to the Football Manager Apprentice of the Year award for the Championship he collected earlier in the night.

Wickham received the award at the gala ceremony at The Brewery, London, on Sunday evening in front of guests from clubs, sponsors and the football industry. This year there were a total of 17 awards with a total of 34 clubs shortlisted for honours.

On winning his award, Wickham said, "To win one award was amazing, to get this one as well is unbelievable. I have been fortunate to play a lot of football this season and that has been a massive help in improving my game. This award is recognition of that progress and I am delighted."
