The Football League has announced that Oldham Athletic player Dean Furman has won the Mitre Goal of the Year Award at the 2011 Football League Awards.

During the 2010 calendar year, no fewer than 5043 goals were scored in Football League competitions. Each Football League club was asked to nominate their club's best goal from the 2010 calendar year. In conjunction with the presenters and viewers of Sky Sports' Soccer AM these have then been narrowed down to a shortlist of five contenders. The overall winner was decided on the night by attendee votes.

On winning his award Furman said, "It was nice to finish off a great team move and the award is for the whole team really, I was just lucky to be the one on the end of it. I think that the goal shows that there is some good quality football played in the lower leagues."
