Hartlepool United has won the Perform Best Marketing Campaign Award at the Football League Awards 2012.

Russ Green, Chief Executive of Hartlepool United, collected the award at the gala ceremony at The Brewery, London, on Sunday evening in front of over 600 guests from clubs, sponsors and the football industry. This year there were a total of 17 awards with 32 clubs shortlisted for honours.

Hartlepool United beat five clubs from across The Football League to the overall award, with the final shortlist comprising of Burnley, Cardiff City, Huddersfield Town, Hull City and Walsall.

Hartlepool United launched a season ticket campaign that saw prices reduce as more people committed to buy. They created a viral video that has attracted over 30,000 views, and also engaged their fans to help promote the campaign. The results speak for themselves, with season ticket sales increasing from 1,400 to 5,900.

On winning the award, Russ Green said: "I think this must be the first trophy Hartlepool United has ever won. You won't believe what a team effort it has been; everyone involved has just been amazing.

"The campaign pulled everyone together and made the fans feel like it is their club again."

The Perform Best Marketing Campaign Highly Commended Award went to Burnley, for the club's 'Clarets Player: Bringing The Boys To You' campaign.

When assessing the category, judges looked at the clubs that had best demonstrated results through the use of an innovative marketing campaign that engaged with their target audience.
