Portsmouth has been named the Tokio Marine Family Club of the Year at the Football League Awards 2012.
Marketing Executive Tom Gorringe from Portsmouth collected the award at the gala ceremony at The Brewery, London, on Sunday evening in front of over 600 guests from clubs, sponsors and the football industry. This year there were a total of 17 awards with 32 clubs shortlisted for honours.
Portsmouth beat five clubs from across The Football League to the overall award with the final shortlist comprising of Cardiff City, Dagenham & Redbridge, Huddersfield Town, Swindon Town and Tranmere Rovers.
Portsmouth have placed particular emphasis this year on creating a family atmosphere to nurture their fans of the future, developing things such as a Kidzone, a new 'First Time Fan Guide', family specific ticket offers and initiatives such as a 'Junior Blues Sleep Over' on the pitch.
On winning the award, Tom Gorringe from Portsmouth said: "It is a great achievement and testament to the fan base and staff who have contributed to this award.
"Everybody talks in dire terms but in your heart of hearts you just know that whatever happens some form of Pompey will always be there. As long as there is a fan base they'll be a football club and the fans will drive what we do forward."
Divisionally, the Tokio Marine Family Club of the Year for League 1 Award was won by Huddersfield Town, while the League 2 Award went to Swindon Town.
When assessing the category, judges looked for the club that best demonstrated outstanding delivery of activity to attract and retain families at games.
