Morecambe FC were named the 'North West Community Club of the Year' as part of the Football League Awards 2014.
The Football League Trust led a judging panel that selected five regional winners in order to recognise the schemes that have best demonstrated success at engaging with their local community over the past year.
The Morecambe FC in the Community scheme uses the power of football to make a difference in the local area, with more than 25,000 participants benefiting from the 25 projects that it runs.
Sports participation numbers have increased along with a rise in overall numbers of participants, while a high number of females are taking part in the scheme's Gymstars programme. Success has been achieved in other areas too, with people from the mentoring and apprenticeship courses completing voluntary work with the scheme and others finding paid employment. The Kickz programme saw a reduction in anti-social behaviour and criminal damage, and the Lifestyle evaluation programme saw well over half of the participants making positive changes.
