Southend United skipper Adam Barratt is the new Ambassador for the club's Community and Education Trust and the Study Support Centre.
Defender Barratt has made over 200 appearances for The Shrimpers since moving from Bristol Rovers.
He becomes the face of the Trust and will launch Community projects throughout next season.
Barratt said: "The club does some excellent work in the Community and I was only too happy to get involved.
"Some people on the outside might perceive our work as just soccer schools, but the club delivers a range of educational and lifestyle programmes.
"By lending a hand, I hope I can help the Community team continue to make a difference in the local area."
United's Community Chief Executive Steve Goodsell said: "Adam is a great role model for young people and a good example of someone who has worked hard to get where he is.
"He cares a great deal about the club, and has always shown a real interest in the work we do and what we achieve.
"We are delighted to have Adam as the Ambassador and look forward to working with him in the future."
Football League Trust Regional Manager Greg Baker said: "It is always a bonus to have First Team players involved in Community schemes.
"Adam has shown real commitment off the pitch, as well as on it, and this is great news for everyone at Southend."
