Barnet youngster Mauro Vilhete is close to completing an extraordinary journey at the club.

Last season he was one of a group of schoolboys helping out the League 2 side with their ProZone coding and analysis.

But after starring for the Barnet Kickz Community team, he was invited into the Youth set-up.

And the 16-year-old midfielder recently made the First Team squad for the Bees' clash against Hereford United.

Vilhete was an unused substitute in the game, which finished 0-0.

But boss Ian Hendon suggested his debut is not far away.

Hendon said: "I'd have liked to have got him on but the way the game was going it wasn't to be."

Football League Youth Development Manager Jim Briden said: "Congratulations to Mauro on his achievements so far.

"This is a fantastic story of dedication on behalf of the player and support from Barnet Football Club.

"It is proof of the power of football and the difference it can make to people's lives.

"The League wishes Mauro a long and successful football career."
