Colchester United Community Sports Trust's 'Football Plus' group enjoyed a hands on experience with the latest technology when they visited the Imagine Centre at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Football Plus is run by Colchester United Community Sports Trust (CUCST) and funded by the Football Foundation. The programme gives older adults the opportunity to improve their health, increase their activity levels and boost their wellbeing while having fun, socialising and meeting new people.

The group, which consists of people 55 years and above, meets every Monday at the Community Stadium and offers a wide range of activities from cookery and low impact exercise to quizzes and talks.

As one of their last sessions before the summer break, they had the chance to experience some of the latest technology at the Imagine Centre - including playing football on the interactive floor, a bowling simulation game on the Nintendo Wii games console and trying out the Apple iPad.

Angie Syrett, Healthy Activity Co-ordinator for CUCST, said: "The group had a great time in the Imagine Centre and really enjoyed having the chance to try out some of the latest technology around. Having such an innovative and exciting resource as the Imagine Centre on site is fantastic and it showed that it's a really inspiring place for people of all ages."

As well as providing innovative technology and support to schools, the Imagine Centre is also an exciting place for people of all ages from family groups to businesses.

Angie added: "We have been really pleased to see how popular Football Plus has become. Over the past weeks attendance has continued to build and many of the people who come along have become great friends. We offer a wide range of activities so there is something for everyone to enjoy."

The Football Plus group has adjourned for the summer holiday and will return in September, running every Monday from 10am to noon at the Community Stadium.
