AFC Bournemouth's Community Sports Trust is heading out to Africa on a special mission this month.

The Cherries Trust will spend 10 days working on community projects in Kenya - helping poor children with special educational classes and football coaching sessions.

Bournemouth's Community Sports Trust Area Coach Jamie Dighton has teamed up with apprentice Danny Thomas, Cherries assistant kit man Chris Jeffes and two Bournemouth supporters as they prepare for their charity trip to the city of Nakuru.

Jamie said: "A company called African Adventures approached us, wanting to take volunteers out and we thought it would be a great way of trying to help people less fortunate than ourselves, via the AFC Bournemouth Community Scheme.

"None of us have ever been to Africa, so it will be an incredible experience."

He added: "There is going to be a lot happening. We will be working with children from the city's slum area who can't afford to go to school, cooking and delivering food for them, as well as putting on coaching and education classes."

The Cherries squad have shown their support for the trip by donating kits, boots and training tops, which will be donated to the children in Africa.

AFC Bournemouth midfielder Wes Fogden said: "We are only too happy to make a donation to the Trust because they will be doing some really important work in Africa.

"We go through lots of pairs of boots during a season and don't really think much about it, but they could make a big difference to some of the kids in Kenya."

Steve Cuss, Head of AFC Bournemouth's Community Sports Trust, said: "We are fortunate to be at a club where all our work is supported and valued, and that extends to the players.

"They have backed the project and the kit they have donated will be put to good use."

The trip concludes with a football tournament involving a dozen teams from the city and Jamie added: "We want to make it an annual event and hopefully there will be a lot more Bournemouth supporters in Africa by the time we return."
