The Football League's Director of Legal Affairs, Nick Craig, was named In House Lawyer of the Year at the annual In House Legal Awards in Manchester on Friday evening.

Craig, who has worked for The Football League for the last 11 years and is responsible for overseeing its commercial contracts as well as devising and enforcing its rules and regulations, said: "I am delighted and shocked to win this award, particularly in the face of such strong competition. The awards are an excellent platform to honour and showcase the skills of the in house legal community."

The awards, organised by the Law Society's Commerce & Industry Group North West, took place at the Lowry Hotel in front of 260 guests. The event raised around £9,000 for Cancer Research UK.

Paul Jonson, head of dispute resolution & regulatory at Manchester law firm Pannone, which sponsored awards, said: "It was a fantastic event which raised thousands of pound for charity.

"We are delighted to be associated with the region's in house legal community and look forward to next year's awards."
