Leeds United midfielder Jonny Howson will be aiming to land the second part of a double-whammy on Carlisle United when he steps out against the Cumbrians for Tuesday evening's second leg of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Northern Area Final.

Two seasons ago Leeds United went to Brunton Park for the second leg of their Coca-Cola League 1 Play-Off semi-final trailing 2-1; but Howson scored twice to give his team a 2-0 win on the night and a 3-2 aggregate victory that took them to Wembley for a Final that, sadly for the Elland Road club, they lost to Doncaster Rovers.

Almost two years later there is a déjà vu-like scenario in the Trophy semi-final, Carlisle having again won the first leg 2-1 at Elland Road and Leeds thus needing victory by a two-goal margin to clinch a place in the Wembley Final.

Recalling his 2008 brace as he looked ahead to Tuesday's visit to Brunton Park, Howson said: "That was a good night for me and for the team. Unfortunately we fell at the final hurdle, but it was a happy memory.

"It would be very nice if we could get through again, and the trip to Wembley is certainly an incentive - there aren't too many of us who were involved at Wembley last time, but if we could get through we'd want to put it right.

"We have to get there first, though. We have a tough game at Carlisle, who are doing well at the minute. But we know what we have to do and we'll go there aiming to get a win and get to the Final."

Getting a win will be far from easy for the visitors, 15th in the table Carlisle having been unbeaten at home for almost three months. Meanwhile Leeds, despite their FA Cup heroics at first Manchester United and then Tottenham Hotspur, have taken only one point from their last three League 1 games on the road.

Defeats at Exeter and Swindon were followed by Saturday's 2-2 draw at Hartlepool United, where the home side denied the second in the table team victory with a last minute equaliser - Leeds having twice been in front.

"Saturday was just one of those things," said Howson. "It actually felt as though we'd been beaten with the equaliser coming so late.

"I think that we're playing well at the moment, but you need to start every game fast and the games where we've dropped points we didn't start so well. So we'll be looking to get off to a good start at Carlisle and take the game to them."
